The story begins with three races – Malak, Humans, and Daemons. Tales of Beseria takes place before Zestiria as it reveals how things became to be. She transforms into a demon following the death of her little brother at the hands of her brother-in-law Artorius during the Scarlet Night, and swears revenge on the latter whatever the cost. It is a story of depth and grand adventure befitting the Tales series. The story’s theme is “emotion and logic,” but this is not a moral tale of good punishing evil.
